Tease on Tiles and ‘doing what you love’

My very favorite thing about being an artist is just playing!! When i first began selling my art 4 years ago, I totally didn’t get that…to play. I was trying to create a product and forgot that i was suppose to put my heart in the work i was doing. It really showed in my art, the lack of passion, and I quickly had to let go and learn to play again. i was suppose to just be me and let the art create itself.
That is why i love mixed media so much…it allows me to express myself in ways i can’t find using just one medium or technique. That’s pretty much how i am in life…gotta have 10 balls in the air, 6 lines and the water, and 4 pots on the stove. I’m just crazy like that:)
So i  love this new technique i have been working with using alcohol inks and ceramic tiles.
I simply couldn’t take a picture that would do these tiles justice! The colors and shine are just stunning. If you have worked with alcohol inks you know how rich and vibrant the colors are, that’s why i love using them!

These tiles were so much fun and they very much had a life of there own. I’m offering a workshop on this process next Thursday (you can find more information in my workshop page).  Friday, the 23rd i’m gonna come back and share the tutorial on how you can make these at home. Sorry to be such a tease but
I’d love you to stop back by and experience this super duper fun process with me.
Until then…
I’m excited to share “my walk” on a truly inspiring blog called Do What you Love for Life hosted by Beth Nicholls. Here is her facebook page too. Beth has a way of supporting women in who they are while inspiring others through her own walk.

Here’s a little sample …
In 2007 I was happy. But not the kind of happy that fills you up. I was satisfied but still hungry. I think that was the first step for me in doing what I love, realizing I wasn’t filled up and feeling like I did deserved to be filled up.”

Please stop over and visit Beth and read more on the journey’s of people who are doing what they love for life!

ode’ to my studio

Ode to my STUDIO…
Little room that greets me
always smiles
even when I leave you dirty or alone
always welcomes me home
Little room that inspires
full of wonder
unfinished works
already done in my mind
Little room that loves
never judges
holds me close
I’m the one you love most
You were created just for me!
I know she’s messy right now.
Supplies spread all over,

Unfinished works, sleeping but not forgotten.

But she let’s me play and get messy. Here is where I express myself and make mistakes.

Never thought i could find all that in a room!

Next Tuesday i am offering a TRU GODDESS Workshop to 12 creative Goddesses. In this workshop we will be using a variety of mixed media techniques to create a inspirational dream board. This is such a creative way of goal setting! Putting your dreams on canvas is a powerful exercise and I’m so excited see the hearts desire of these awesome women.

What is your hearts desire?? Make a dream board and set it by your bedside or on your bathroom sink. Give you dreams life and room to grow.

I would love to link up with you and see your Goddess Dream Board!

I’m hooking up with Jen over at JRU STUDIO http://www.studiojru.com/ today. Stop over and take a peek into Jen’s studio. She is full of energy! Other creative spaces will be found there and it’s a inspiring place to be on Fridays!

May you have a blessed weekend!

something new to learn

Happy Friday!
It has been another crazy week around here, but isn’t it always?!
I have been trying to get some things in order this week and although it hasn’t been much fun, it is time well spent. Working on that goal list ya know.
One of my main goals is to re-do my website(working on it) and add prints to my line. I know, I know, I said I would never do them, but I’m doing them! I have had too many people ask for them not to go ahead and offer them. This will also allow me to do some whole selling and raise my prices on original work. It is time since I am selling through 50% of my work at shows. That’s a good thing and it has been a long time in coming.
So my darling husband, my biggest supporter, bought me a printer!! Oh my gosh, now I have to learn how to work it. It is a little much right now, as i just scored some new Photoshop software from a local thrift store I was volunteering at. It was just a blessing to unload that just donated box and find a brand new Photoshop 6.0, never used, waiting for my grubby little hands. To top it off it cost me $10!! I know it’s not the newest version but it will be more than enough for what I need.
It will be a challenge to learn all this at once because I am not very technically inclined. Remember, I can’t even operate a sewing machine! But I’m excited to grow my business and move forward. It has been a long journey.
Next week I will share the 3 best things I have done to grow my business.
I hope you are moving towards your goals too.

Sneak Peek Friday with Studio JRU

TGIF!

I am so glad to be done with that week. It has been a challenge for me to get back into the swing of things. Wasn’t I was just talking to you about being exited to get back to a routine?
Must have been delusional.

Fun post today.
My sweet friend Jennifer, over at STUDIO JRU http://www.studiojru.com/ has a wonderful challenge for the brave and creative. Every Friday she will challenge us to post a peek on what we’re doing in the studio. I totally love this idea because it helps to create a community. By sharing ourselves with each other, creatively or spiritually, we are building a community of support. It’s not easy to put ourselves out there, but if you are an artist, writer, musician, etc… there will eventually come a day where you’ll have to dive in. Let us be there to catch you.
SOOOO…here’s what i’m working on this week. This is great timing because I just cleaned my studio last weekend:)

Mixing my love for modern abstract and collage. Not near done but lovin’ this process!

Mary piece on wood block and cherry still life. These two must be finished today for a show tomorrow. Please no rain or 95 degree temperatures. I have had 3 shows in a row with rain or heat.

Thank you for taking a sneak peek into my favorite room. Stop over to visit STUDIO JRU and check out what some of your fellow bloggers are in to.

Looking for inspiration or a fun challenge?

Click on Jennifer’s STUDIO JRU or Paulette Insall’s CREATE BY FAITH blog buttons found here. These are weekly challenges and a great way to BUILD COMMUNITY.

Have an INSPIRING weekend!
